Agreement to Terms
By downloading, installing, or using Asterism (“the App”), you agree to these Terms of Service (“Terms”). If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the App.
Description of Service
Asterism (listed on the App Store as “Asterism: Life in Weeks”) is an iPhone app that draws your life as a grid of weeks based on a birthdate and a chosen horizon, and lets you mark and revisit the moments that mattered. The App runs entirely on your device. There is no server-side component, no user account, and no cloud storage.
Asterism draws a grid from a life-expectancy estimate you choose (80, 90, or 100 years). It is a reflective tool, not a prediction. It makes no claim about how long you or anyone else will live.
Nature of the Horizon
The grid's length is set by the horizon you pick in Settings — 80, 90, or 100 years — not by any calculation about you. It is a fixed frame for reflection, described in the App itself as “an estimate, not a promise.” Asterism does not diagnose, predict, or provide medical, psychological, financial, or actuarial advice, and nothing in it should be treated as such.
Use of the App
You may use Asterism for any lawful purpose. You agree not to:
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the App
- Modify, adapt, or create derivative works based on the App
- Use the App in any way that violates applicable local, state, national, or international law
- Distribute, license, or sell the App or any copies of it
Purchase
Asterism is a one-time purchase through the App Store. Every feature is included; there are no subscriptions and no in-app purchases. All billing, refunds, and receipts are handled by Apple under the App Store's terms — we do not process payments or see your payment information.
Data and Privacy
All data created in Asterism is stored locally on your device. The App does not collect, transmit, or store any personal data on external servers, and it has no network access at all. For full details, see our Privacy Policy.
Your Data and Backups
The App keeps your birthdate, moments, and preferences on your device, and provides an export so you can save your own copy through the share sheet. You are responsible for exporting or backing up your data; the developer is not responsible for data lost due to device failure, loss, an “Erase everything” action, or uninstalling the App.
Intellectual Property
The App, including its design, code, graphics, icon, and content, is owned by the developer of Asterism and is protected by applicable intellectual property laws. These Terms do not grant you any rights to the App's intellectual property beyond the limited license to use the App as described here. The moments you record — your titles, notes, and the shape of your grid — belong to you.
Disclaimer of Warranties
Asterism is provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, the developer of Asterism shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, arising out of or in connection with your use of the App.
Because Asterism processes data locally and transmits nothing, the developer is not responsible for the security of data stored on your device. Device-level security (passcode, Face ID, encryption) is your responsibility.
App Store Terms
Your use of Asterism is also subject to Apple's App Store Terms of Service. In the event of a conflict between these Terms and Apple's terms, Apple's terms prevail with respect to your use of the App Store and Apple's services.
Termination
You may stop using Asterism at any time by deleting the App from your device. Deleting the App removes its locally stored data from that device. There is no account to close and no server-side data to request deletion of, since nothing is stored externally.
Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. Updated terms will be posted at this URL. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
Governing Law
These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the jurisdiction in which the App's developer is located, without regard to conflict of law principles.
