Common questions
What does Attune help me do?
Attune compares your available HRV readings with your own recent history, lets you add tags and notes to your days, and guides breathing practice. A baseline helps you understand your own pattern; it is not a universal good-or-bad score. You can replay the introduction in Settings → How Attune works.
Do I need Apple Watch or Health access?
Breathing practice works without Health access or Apple Watch. For HRV trends, Attune needs permission to read available HRV measurements in Apple Health, commonly recorded by Apple Watch. The Watch companion is optional.
Why are there no HRV readings?
Apple Watch records HRV from time to time, so a new reading is not guaranteed. Your Health history may be empty, or access may be off. Check that HRV readings exist in Apple Health, then review Attune’s access in Health → your profile → Apps → Attune (the wording may vary by OS version). Return to Today and pull down to refresh.
Apple does not tell Attune whether an empty read result means access was denied or there are no readings. Attune therefore avoids claiming that an empty result proves Health is connected.
Why was my practice not saved as Mindfulness minutes?
HRV reading and Mindfulness writing are separate permissions. Review Mindfulness write access for Attune in Apple Health. A practice can still be saved in Attune’s local history when writing to Health is unavailable; its summary shows the save result. Paused time is not counted as practice time.
What happens if I lock my phone or leave a practice?
Your iPhone screen stays awake while a practice is active. Locking it, switching to another app, or an interruption pauses the timer. Return to Practice and tap Resume when you are ready. Moving between Attune’s tabs keeps the same session. Force-closing Attune ends an unfinished phone practice without saving it.
How do I finish early?
Tap End. The timer pauses while you choose Save practice, Discard practice, or Keep paused. Saving records the active time you completed. Finishing the selected duration saves once automatically.
Where is my Apple Watch practice?
Completed Watch practices queue for the paired iPhone and transfer when Apple’s connectivity service can deliver them. Make sure Attune is installed on both devices and open it on both. If the Watch reports a pending or failed transfer, reopen Attune when the phone is available. There is no separate Attune account or developer-run sync server.
Does “Nighttime” mean I was asleep?
No. It is a filter for readings between midnight and 8 a.m. in your current time zone. Attune does not read sleep records or detect sleep.
How do I export or delete my data?
In Settings → Data, choose Export CSV or Export JSON to save a file. Exports may contain HRV readings, notes, and other personal information. The current app does not import or restore these files.
Delete local app data resets the iPhone’s Attune history and preferences. It leaves Apple Health records, exported files, backups, and Watch-side storage untouched. A local deletion marker prevents older Watch sessions from reappearing. If Health access is still enabled, Health history can be read again. See the privacy policy’s deletion details.
Why didn’t my daily reminder appear?
Check Settings → Reminders in Attune and the app’s notification permission in your device settings. Focus modes and other system notification settings can affect delivery. Reminders are scheduled on the device; they are not medical or emergency alerts.
Is Attune medical advice?
No. Attune offers personal context and breathing guidance. It does not diagnose conditions, prove that a habit caused a change, or replace professional care. Ask a qualified healthcare professional about health concerns or medical decisions.
